Have you ever made elaborate plans with your friends only for someone to call in at the last minute saying that they can't make it? They have to cancel on you because either their team building seminars ran late, their car had to be taken into the shop for repair, or their son was coming down with a cold. It's nice to just go out to a relaxed atmosphere. Coffee shops give you and your friends a chance to actually talk and have lively debates. Doing something like going out for supper at a fancy restaurant finds everyone spending their time focusing on the food. At a coffee shop it's just the two of you talking over a cup of coffee. Nothing else. You can actually focus on what's being said and not on what's being eaten.

Also, since there are so many coffee shops it means that there is always one nearby. Some people can't go out because they're stuck at the office working on class action Ontario cases. However, they always have lunch breaks and that means coffee is always an option. Going out for coffee is close and convenient to their place of work. The next time you utter the words, "lets meet," to a friend, you should add, "for coffee," at the end of that sentence. There's a greater likelihood of them saying yes.
